Holland America
I will be flying to Seattle on Wednesday (Feb. 21) to attend a Gonzaga Breakfast Series/GAMP event. Stein Kruse, CEO and President, of Holland America will be speaking. I am excited for the opportunity to go, even if it will only be a brief trip. I am leaving at 5am on Wednesday morning and will return by 2pm in time for my Portfolio Management class. I’ll post about it on Wednesday.
Cheers,
Markus
NYC Trek – possibly taking shape
I am currently trying to put together a trip for students to New York City (similar to the Seattle Trek, which I have written about here) in order to explore job opportunities in the financial service sector.
I have been talking with my boss Kevin Pratt (GAMP) and the Dean of the Business School, Clarence Barnes, about taking students to NYC next October. Ideally 15 or so students would have the chance to visit various investment firms in Manhattan. Several of our potential hosts actually happen to be former students of Dean Barnes’ Portfolio Management course, which I am currently enrolled in (read about it here.)
I think the opportunity to explore the financial services job market would hold an incredible value to the students at Gonzaga. On top of that, it would be a great to further expand the University’s reach – building relationships with alumni and firms across the country. Gonzaga has alumni chapters in many US cities, but students are primarily from the West Coast and strengthening the University’s ties to the East Coast could prove valuable to Gonzaga in many ways.
I am excited to be working on potentially putting on this event and truly enjoy the opportunity to work with both Kevin and Dean Barnes on this. I will keep you all posted on how things develop and whether Kevin and I are able to secure sponsorship from the University’s Trustees, Regents, and alumni.
