Waterproof iPod Shuffle

with 7 comments

SwimMan has released a 100% waterproof iPod Shuffle. For $250 you can buy, both the 2nd Generation Apple iPod Shuffle waterproofed by SwimMan and the “SwimMan Waterproof Headset.” The iPod Shuffle comes in its original packaging with original accessories (charging dock, iPod non-waterproof headphones, foam ear-bud pads, manuals, warranty info, etc.) and the “SwimMan Waterproof Headset” comes with its own manual and warranty.

The iPod is a genuine 2nd Generation iPod Shuffle that Swimman has waterproofed using its proprietary waterproofing technology. It actually doesn’t even require a bulky or heavy case because its waterproofing is done inside the iPod.

How cool is that?

  1. I wonder if the Ipod 2nd GEN Ipod isn’t waterproof box stock.
My 13 year old -washed- his in our front loader washing machine AND dried it inside his pants pocket. I, his father now run with it daily. It sounds perfect. I think these cases must be fabuloulsy well sealed straight off the assembly line.
I question whether these units being sold as swim man units are box stock themselves, and the double price just their self-insurance if one fails in the water.

  2. Mark M –
I found the same thing happened when my nephew left his nano in his jeans’ pocket – however, a trip through the washing machine did mess up the screen (still sounded fine). So I’m not sure it would survive too many washing ycles. I only wish I could find more first hand accounts of users of the Swimman product to confirm it’s worth the extra expense.

  4. electronics will often times come back to life if washed provided they were not turned on at the time of soaking. PCB manufacturers wash the circuit boards as part of their normal process so that is not the issue, its what happens when it gets when on a live circuit.

  5. Guys, I bought a Swimman waterproof iPod Shuffle about 6 months ago after my initial Shuffle was damaged by water intrusion into another product that promissed to be waterproof! The Swimman iPod is still going strong now with almost daily lap swims. Conclusion: The iPod Shuffle is not waterproof, but the Swimman waterproofing of the Shuffle works as advertised.
